Adult Music Lessons in Cicero, IN: You Haven’t Missed Your Chance

“I’ve always wanted to learn guitar.”

I hear some version of that sentence all the time. Sometimes it’s piano. Sometimes it’s drums or singing. Usually there’s a but right behind it.

“But I’m probably too old.”

“But I don’t have time to practice.”

“But everyone else probably started when they were kids.”

Here’s what might surprise you: more than half of our students are adults. You will not be the odd one out walking into Cicero Music Garage.

Do I need any experience?

Nope.

Some adults come in knowing a few chords. Some played years ago and want to find their way back. Some are starting from zero and have spent their whole lives believing they missed the window.

We start with the person in front of us. What made you want to learn? What music do you love? What would you be excited to play six months from now?

Your answer does not have to impress anybody. It just gives us somewhere to begin.

What if I’m embarrassed to be a beginner?

Honestly, being a beginner as an adult can feel weird. You are used to knowing how to do things. Then you pick up an instrument and your hands refuse to cooperate.

That is a normal first chapter.

In a lesson, we work on the hard part with you. We slow it down, repeat a small piece, listen for what changed, and find a win. You are allowed to sound like someone learning. Around here, we say SLOW + UGLY = AWESOME for a reason.

You do not need to show up good at music. You need room to try.

What if I don’t have time to practice?

If you can find two or three minutes a day, that is a great place to start. Pick up the instrument and play one thing. Tomorrow, come back to it.

You might find yourself wanting more time as you grow. If you do, great. But we are never going to judge your week by a practice timer.

Some of your best practice, especially early on, will happen in the studio with your instructor beside you. We will ask how things went at home so we know how to help. We ask. We do not command.

Am I going to have to play onstage?

Only if that becomes your goal.

Maybe you want to sing with more confidence at church. Maybe you want to play songs at home, write your own music, or finally understand the guitar sitting in your closet. If you want to play with other musicians, we have opportunities for that too.

Your goals drive the bus. We bring the tools and help you learn the music underneath the songs, so you can keep growing beyond the first thing you learn to play.

You have enough places in life where somebody tells you who you’re supposed to be. A music lesson should give you space to discover what you want to make.

At Cicero Music Garage, that begins with feeling Loved. Valued. Cared For. We get to know you, celebrate the wins, and work through the frustrating parts together.

Still thinking, “Someday I’ll do it”? Grab a 1-Day Pit Pass and come experience Cicero Music Garage. We’re at 50 W Buckeye St. in Cicero. Tell us what you’ve always wanted to play. Let’s start there. 🤘
