If you are looking for music lessons in Cicero, you probably have more questions than “Do you teach guitar?”

Will my kid actually enjoy this? What if they are shy? What if they try it and struggle? What if I’m the one who wants lessons and I’ve waited twenty years to ask?

I get it. Choosing a music school feels personal because it is. You are trusting someone with a person, not just paying for thirty minutes with an instrument.

At Cicero Music Garage, a good lesson starts with three questions we ask ourselves about every student: Did they feel Loved? Valued? Cared For?

We start with the person

Before we get into the music, we check in.

How are you? What was good about your week? What was hard? Is there something you’re excited about?

That conversation helps us know the person walking into the room today. A student who had a rough week may need a different kind of encouragement than they did last Tuesday. We want to notice that.

Then we ask about the music. What went well when you practiced? What felt hard? Sometimes a student walks in ready to show us a win. Sometimes they need us to sit beside them and say, “Let’s figure this out together.”

Both are part of learning.

We build on the win

Once we know where a student is, we review what they’ve been working on. We might slow it down, speed it up, play with a drum track, or repeat one small part until it starts to click.

Around here, we say SLOW + UGLY = AWESOME.

That means you don’t have to make it sound great on the first try. You can play it slowly. You can make a mess of it. You can listen, adjust, and try again.

That is how students learn to fail forward. And when an instructor is paying attention, even a small bit of progress gets seen.

We give them a next step they can actually use

A lesson should not end with “Go practice” and leave the student guessing.

We introduce a new idea when they’re ready, then make sure they understand what to work on at home, how to work on it, and what to listen for. We want them to leave knowing what a win could look like before they come back.

That next step will look different for every student. One wants to play a favorite song. Another wants to sing with confidence. Another wants to understand their instrument well enough to write music or play with a band.

Their goals drive the bus. Our job is to give them the tools and care to keep moving.

What can you learn at Cicero Music Garage?

We offer one-on-one lessons in guitar, piano, drums, voice, ukulele, bass, and more. Beginners are welcome. So are students picking an instrument back up after years away.

We use songs students care about, but we teach the music underneath them too: rhythm, listening, technique, and how the pieces fit together. We want students to be able to make music beyond the one song they learned this month.

And when playing with others becomes part of a student’s goal, there are performance opportunities to explore. Nobody has to dream of a stage on day one.
